Holotype: CHINA. TIBET: Motuo, on Sorbus globosa, 17 Aug 1982, J.Y. Zhuang HMAS 45208 (holotype).
Morphological description
Spermogonia epiphyllous, aggregated in groups, pale yellow to black. Aecia hypophyllous, roestelioid, 1–3 mm long, peridium retaining tubular form, rupturing at apex, peridial cells rhomboid, 42–125 × 11–36 μm, inner wall sparsely echinulate (type SE), side wall rugose (type R), outer wall smooth (type S). Aeciospores globoid, yellowish brown, 5–36 × 21–33 μm, 1–2.5 μm thick, large annulate (type LA), more than 5 pores, scattered. Uredinia and telia not found.
Habitat: on Sorbus globosa and Sorbus koehneana
Distribution: Gansu and Tibet in China

Notes: According to the phylogenetic results, this species should be placed under Gymnosporangium, hence the new combiantion.
